Multiplexed quantum repeaters based on single-photon interference with mild stabilization
~A Further Step Toward the Quantum Internet
LQUOM, Inc. in collaboration with Yokohama National University, has proposed a method for generating quantum entanglement, an important element of the quantum internet.
Quantum repeaters are one of the necessary elements for realizing the quantum internet, which is expected to be the next-generation communication infrastructure, to enable long-distance quantum communication.
In the development of quantum repeaters, it is known that single-photon interference enables efficient entanglement distribution, but on the other hand, there is a challenge in phase stability for long-distance realization. In this research, we have proposed a method to dramatically ease the difficulty of phase stabilization through multiplexing techniques, and have succeeded in taking a major step forward toward the construction of quantum repeaters.
This achievement is one of the key elements for the realization of the quantum internet, and LQUOM will continue to further develop quantum repeaters and long-distance quantum communications.
