LQUOM Raises Series B Funding to Accelerate the Realization of the Quantum Internet

~Strengthening Research and Business Development for the Commercialization of Quantum Repeaters~

Date: October 24, 2025

Yokohama, Japan — LQUOM Inc. (Head Office: Yokohama, Kanagawa; CEO: Kazuya Niizeki) is pleased to announce that it has raised Series B funding through a third-party allotment of new shares to the following investors: SBI Investment Co., Ltd., ORIX Capital Corporation, Osaka University Venture Capital Co., Ltd., SMBC Venture Capital Co., Ltd., JMTC Capital G.K., Anritsu Corporation, and Bio-Sight Capital, Inc. (in no particular order). An extension round is also planned.

■Background and Progress
As quantum computing advances, global communication infrastructure requires new levels of security and performance beyond today’s Internet. The Quantum Internet, enabled by quantum repeaters, will allow the secure transmission of quantum information over long distances — a field with very few players worldwide.

LQUOM has been developing this core technology through both fundamental and applied research, including field trials using commercial optical fiber networks. In 2024, the company commercialized the LQ-PS-100, a cavity-integrated two-photon entangled light source—one of the key building blocks of quantum repeater systems.

LQUOM is now engaged in multiple joint research projects with major corporations and universities to address technical challenges in connecting quantum computers and quantum communication networks in real-world environments, thereby laying the groundwork for the Quantum Internet both in Japan and abroad.

In August 2025, LQUOM was selected by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) for the “Research and Development Project of the Enhanced Infrastructures for Post-5G Information and Communication Systems” specifically under the category (g5) Acceleration of Development toward the Industrialization of Quantum Computers, and is now conducting cutting-edge R&D on interconnection technologies between quantum computers.

■Purpose of the Series B Funding
Through this Series B round, LQUOM enters a growth phase aimed at translating its research achievements into commercialization and social implementation.

The newly raised funds will be used to:

  • Further enhance the performance and reliability of its quantum repeater technology to establish international competitiveness,
  • Strengthen its R&D and business development teams, and
  • Accelerate both technology development and market expansion in parallel.

LQUOM will also conduct large-scale demonstration experiments in domestic and international testbeds, contributing to the formation of an ecosystem essential for societal implementation.

In collaboration with telecommunications carriers and high-tech companies, LQUOM will promote standardization and interoperability, both key for the practical deployment of quantum communication networks.

Additionally, LQUOM will expand its global business, reinforcing partnerships with overseas organizations, promoting international joint research, and offering its technology to global customers—all toward the worldwide realization of the Quantum Internet.

■Comments from Investors (in no particular order)

LQUOM is a quantum technology startup from Yokohama National University developing quantum communication systems, quantum repeaters, and related technologies to realize the Quantum Internet. As the performance of quantum computers improves, current encryption algorithms may become vulnerable to decryption. To counter this threat, quantum communication technologies offering theoretically unbreakable security are essential. For long-distance, secure communication, repeaters are necessary. Quantum repeaters dedicated to quantum communication are indispensable to realize the Quantum Internet, and LQUOM possesses the core technologies required for their development. Through the development of entanglement-based quantum repeater systems, LQUOM aims to bring the Quantum Internet—an absolutely secure next-generation network—into practical use.
